TOURISM chiefs are bracing themselves for a packed August bank holiday weekend to top off the sizzling summer.
Tens of thousands of holidaymakers are expected to flock to Bournemouth for the forecasted sunshine and extend their trip to watch the world-renowned Air Festival.
Temperatures are predicted to rise steadily throughout the bank holiday weekend, reaching 24 degrees on Monday August 24.
There is a chance of rain on Saturday, but it is thought this is unlikely to deter optimistic holidaymakers, intent on enjoying the beach.
Cabinet Member for Tourism, Lawrence Williams said: “It’s looking like a very promising weekend because of the predicted sunshine. We’ve just had Bournemouth in Bloom and the town is looking perfect.
“The Air Festival, which starts just two days after the bank holiday, should cap it all off. We’re really looking forward to welcoming tens of thousands of visitors.”
Many guesthouses are already fully booked but there is some availability from Monday August 26 to Wednesday August 28.
Paul Clarke, Chairman of the Bournemouth Accommodation and Hotel Association said: “Most accommodation providers have had a significant growth year on year this summer. “We are grateful to Bournemouth Council, Bournemouth Tourism Management Board (BTMB) and the Business Improvement Districts (BID) for all they have done to really show off Bournemouth as a well respected resort.”
He has recommended guests should make bookings direct to the hotel, rather than going through online travel agents to ensure they get the best available rates.
There is no shortage of events planned, with free performances at pier approach, Argentine tango in Bournemouth Square and CBeebies’ double act, Chris and Pui taking over Bournemouth Pavilion on Monday August 24.
