A DISABLED woman whose car was damaged in a Poole supermarket car park while she was shopping was stunned to be told the CCTV cameras had not been recording.
Michelle Stoddart parked in a disabled bay at Tesco’s in Tower Park last Monday afternoon and drove home to Wallisdown without noticing the damage to her beloved black BMW X1.
“My husband came in and said: ‘The front of the car is all smashed up, have you had an accident?’. I phoned Tesco to ask if they could check the cameras,” she said.
Michelle, 43, who is medically retired for her job after battling lung cancer, claimed: “They didn’t seem all that bothered and one comment I had was ‘are you sure you didn’t do it?’”
She says a duty manager offered to look into the CCTV coverage but rang back within 10 minutes to say the cameras did not record and wrongly told Michelle that the car park belonged to the council.
“They fobbed me off. I’m disgusted with Tesco’s attitude. It seems like a terrible blunder if a company as big as Tesco’s doesn’t have recording cameras overlooking its property,” added Michelle.
A Tesco spokesperson said: “We take the security of our customers very seriously and our car park is monitored by CCTV which is reviewed by our security team.
“We are sorry that Mrs Stoddart feels her complaint has not been taken seriously, and we are happy to help her investigate this matter in any way we can.”
Any witnesses to the incident should contact the police.
