A SCULPTOR is creating a bust of singer Amy Winehouse in the hope of raising funds for a charity set up in her memory.
Linda Joyce is currently working on a portrait of Amy in a limited edition bronze and will donate the first one to the Amy Winehouse Foundation, which works to prevent the effects of drug and alcohol misuse. A percentage of the sales from the remaining 11 limited edition sculptures will also go to the charitable trust.
Amy died in 2011 at the age of just 27 after drinking so much she stopped breathing.
She died shortly before she was due to appear on stage at the BIC, where Linda’s sculpture is currently on display as part of the Shards art exhibition.
Linda, who has a studio in Pokesdown, said: “I had been talking about doing this sculpture for two years but only actually started it three weeks ago. As soon as I started it I got a phone call from Amy’s dad Mitch. He had seen a picture of it and he thought it was absolutely fantastic and was very excited about the fact it was going to be used to raise money for the foundation. He is going to come and see it at some stage.
“I always find it easy to sculpt when it is something I want to do. She was simply beautiful and I wanted to depict her at her very best. I’ve really enjoyed it.”
