RESIDENTS in Holdenhurst are being given a say on plans to preserve the historic Bournemouth village for future generations.
The east and west of the picture postcard village are currently two separate conservation areas in recognition of their historic origins, buildings and rural setting.
The appraisal will look at proposals to combine both parts of the village into a single conservation area as well as ideas to protect the area and meet the challenges ahead.
Holdenhurst boasts its original gas lamps and has been designated as conservation areas since 1974. The village, tucked behind the Townsend estate and a short distance from the busy A338 Spur Road, has had its own identity since Saxon times and is mentioned in the Domesday Book.
Cllr David Smith, Bournemouth council’s cabinet member for planning and environment, said: “It is really important that we preserve and enhance this area and that residents are given the opportunity to share their feedback on what improvements should be made.
“Holdenhurst village is unique and of great historical importance to Bournemouth. We must put plans in place to enhance this area and ensure that it is protected in the future.”
Once the public consultation is complete the appraisal will provide guidance to property owners, developers and decision makers as well as shape future plans for the area.
The consultation will run until September 27. To have your say visit bournemouth.gov.uk/holdenhurs tvillage or email conservation&de sign@bournemouth.gov.uk Residents can also pick up response forms at Castlepoint library or the customer services at the Town Hall.
