TWO men have been fined and ordered to pay substantial costs by Bournemouth magistrates after being convicted of speeding in Poole Harbour.

Daniel Taylor, 38, of Birchington, Kent, and Martin Blake of Hagley, West Midlands, both exceeded the 10 knot speed limit in the harbour. Taylor was fined £150 with £900 costs and £20 victim surcharge and Blake fined £150 with £860 costs and £20 surcharge.

A third man, Alex Russell, of Fitzworth Avenue, Hamworthy, was fined £400 with £1,520 costs and a £40 surcharge for navigating without due care and attention following an incident involving a fisheries patrol vessel.

After the hearing, a Southern Inshore Fisheries Conservation Authority spokesman said he and another patrol officer had pulled up alongside a small fishing vessel to carry out a check when Russell passed them at high speed in a dory.

“He missed us by two feet or less then turned around, did another high speed pass, and deliberately turned in towards us to try and soak us, which he did.”

The incident was recorded on the patrol officer’s body camera and Russell was convicted in his absence.
