Broadcaster Sir David Frost has died at the age of 74 after a suspected heart attack.

Sir David's career spanned journalism and daytime television presenting, including The Frost Report and That Was The Week That Was, but he will be best remember for his revealing interviews with former US President Richard Nixon

.Sir David lived for many years in Hampshire, but earlier this year moved to Hambledon in Oxfordshire after selling his estate in Romsey.

He died last night on the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, where he was due to give a speech.

The vessel set sail from Southampton yesterday and is due to dock at Lisbon, Portgual, on Tuesday.

David Cameron was quick to send his condolences and tweeted: ''My heart goes out to David Frost's family. He could be - and certainly was with me - both a friend and a fearsome interviewer.

In a statement to BBC News, Sir David's family said: ''His family are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. A family funeral will be held in the near future and details of a memorial service will be announced in due course.''
