FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze involving 15 tons of rubbish at Swanage Recycling Centre this morning.
Crews from Swanage are using main lines, a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to fight fires in three individual skips.
They were called to the scene at 3.10am today and, after experiencing difficulties entering the site, started to fight the fire.
The site is now closed while an investigation takes place in the barn's area.
The Dorset Waste Partnership is assisting with investigations into the cause of the fire and will carry out structural surveys to assess any damage.
The centre is closed until further notice and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so.
The nearest household recycling centre is at Westminster Road in Wareham.
