PLUCKY twins Harry and Jack Miller were over the moon to meet their firefighting heroes as a birthday treat.

The lads, who are huge fans of Fireman Sam, even got the chance to explore a real fire engine, thanks to kind-hearted crew from Redhill fire station.

Dorset Fire and Rescue Service (DFRS) agreed to pop along to the twins’ fourth birthday bash, as part of their continuing work to beef-up home fire safety.

The home fire safety check was lapped up by Harry and Jack, who both got the chance to sit in a real fire engine.

Mum Tracy, of Poole Lane, Kinson, Bournemouth, said: “Jack has cerebral palsy, hearing loss in his right ear and vision loss. He also had heart surgery at three weeks old.

“Both of them are mad about Fireman Sam. They both had fire engines go to their nurseries and it broke their hearts when the fire engines had to leave.”

DFRS, through their home fire safety check programme, are working to ensure as many homes as possible in the county are kitted out with working smoke alarms and that residents are made aware of the risks of domestic fires.

Tracy said she was grateful to DFRS, and also asked to take the opportunity to thank staff at Southampton General Hospital’s children’s ward.

She told the Daily Echo: “The hospital staff there were like Jack’s second mum during a difficult time after his birth.

“I’d just had his twin and his older sister had started nursery. I’d also had surgery during their birth so I wasn’t able to keep going up their all the time.

“They were like his second mum up there and I still can’t thank them enough.”
