SOMETHING that probably only aviation anoraks would know, is that immediately after World War Two, Hurn was the UK’s first international airport with flights to all corners of the globe.
It was soon replaced by somewhere called London Heathrow and that was that. One of the enduring features of Bournemouth Airport is its very long runway (thanks to the war effort) and it means planes like the Boeing 747-800 featured today can use it. The modernised airport itself has all the internal infrastructure it needs.
Better road access and public transport links are all that’s needed.
