A TEENAGE girl died in hospital today after being swept into a rain-swollen river on Dartmoor during training for the annual Ten Tors expedition.

The teenager - around 14 and understood to be from the Torrington area of north Devon - died in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, during the early hours of Monday morning, said Devon and Cornwall Police.

A police spokesman said members of the girl's family were with her when she died. She has not yet been named.

The spokesman said a police investigation into the circumstances of the incident would be launched and a report prepared for the coroner.
