Many Young Men of Twenty, Banteer Drama Group, Boscombe Arts Centre
Using both comedy and music, the play, set in Tom Hannigan's public house during the 1950s, clearly shows opinion of the Irish society's failings at the time.
Hannigan is in dread of his humourless devout sister Seelie (Nicola Corcoran) and most of his customers are either about to leave for England or thinking about it. Dave Nagle is brilliantly appealing as the cynical cadger, Danger Mullaly, and is well matched by Joanne Gallagher in the other main role as the servant girl, Peg.
By the end most of Hannigan's pub have decided to catch the boat too, including, to his sister's astonishment, Hannigan, but Peg has found a reason to stay in the new schoolmaster Maurice Brown (Jimmy Noonan).
