Ash, Southampton University

ASH famously had to take time out from their A-Levels to record their debut album back in the '90s.

Now fully graduated from the School of Rock, the angel-faced Northern Irish boys are now the fully-formed rock article.

From the early days of aspiring to be their geetar heroes, it's them who are now those very heroes.

Essentially Ash have two songs - the fast one and the slightly slower one.

Fortunately the fast one is Teenage Kicks, and the slower one Live Forever.

After a lengthy three-year break since 2004's Meltdown album, the band seem re-energised and ready to have words with new pups on the block like The View.

Their impressive back-catalogue is fully paraded in Southampton, from the butt-kicking early days of Petrol and Kung-Fu, through to the mighty Orpheus.

But the new material, aired at length, shows there is likely to be little chance of their popularity waning.

Forthcoming single You Can't Have It All ba-bas like the Beach Boys before igniting in spectacular style.

Yep, Ash seem set to continue their regal ascent to pop nirvana.
