BOURNEMOUTH will be treated to its own special July 4 party for American Independence Day this year when US rockers Kings of Leon play the BIC.

The Tennessee boys' eagerly-awaited third album, Because of the Times, is out on April 2 and they're returning to the UK for a full tour and appearances at summer festivals.

Formed in 2000 by brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill, with their cousin Matthew, the band takes its name from the brothers' father and grandfather, both of whom were called Leon. They spent most of their childhood touring America's deep south with their father, who was a travelling revivalist preacher, and mother, who taught them when they were not at school.

When their father was defrocked, their parents split and the boys decamped to Nashville.

Their debut album, Youth and Young Manhood, came out in 2003 and was particularly well received in the UK where they scored hits including Holy Roller Novocaine and Red Morning Light. Its follow up, 2005's Aha Shake Heartbreak included hit singles The Bucket and King of the Rodeo as the band toured extensively, including a memorable show at Poole's Lighthouse.

Tickets for the BIC gig went on sale this morning, priced £22.50, and are limited to six per person.
