TWELVE years after it began on a whim, a Bournemouth magazine remembering World War Two continues to go from strength to strength.

Wartime News, which is put together in a small office in Christchurch Road, Bournemouth, now has thousands of readers and reaches as far as America, Canada and Australia.

Editor Marilyn Ward said: "It began as a one-off newsletter to commemorate D-Day in 1994, but when we finished, I had lots of calls from veterans saying Why do we have to stop telling these stories?'"

And so Mrs Ward decided to keep it going, and was surprised by the level of interest.

"It's the only magazine of its kind. All the stories are written by veterans themselves, and it's amazing to see the clarity of their memories and how beautifully they write."

Its Lost Pals section has also brought together comrades who have not seen each other in decades.

Subscription for the quarterly magazine costs £10.50 per year.
