ISRAELI-born jazz virtuoso Avishai Cohen is the business. He's been described by Chick Corea no less as "a genius".
But then Corea should know. The bass player and composer was a founding member of his groundbreaking sextet Origin and played with him for more than seven years.
Now Cohen, who made a big splash on the New York jazz scene back in the 1990s and regularly plays sold-out big city dates worldwide, is due to bring his superb trio to Mr Kyps in Lower Parkstone on Thursday.
In fact, the Kyps date is the band's only UK appearance.
The gig came about because the Avishai Cohen Trio's manager Ray Jefford just happens to come from Bournemouth and was so impressed by Kyps as a venue that he decided it would offer a perfect platform for the band.
So it is that on Thursday an international trio whose last UK dates were two sold-out nights at Ronnie Scotts find themselves playing a small-but-perfectly-formed venue in a suburb of Poole.
The band will be promoting their latest album Continuo, their most critically acclaimed recording to date.
The Avishai Cohen Trio feature Cohen himself on bass, Mark Guiliana on drums and the astonishingly talented and aptly named 19-year-old pianist Shai Maestro.
Kyps are justifiably thrilled to have one of the hottest jazz trios in the world heading their way and say they feel privileged to host the date and excited by the idea of seeing a nine-foot concert grand on their stage.
