Oleanna, Lighthouse Studio
ONE has to wonder at a play that explores the ambivalent, extrapolates confusion and sends the audience out into the cold, with the phrase "Do you see?" ringing in their ears.
Performed in the intimate studio space, with one static set and limited movement, the play depends on the dialogue between the two characters, so even just one careless titter, or forgotten mobile phone can shatter the tension.
Political correctness, sexual harassment and miscommunication are explored, but perhaps more importantly, as the play develops, a power struggle ensues, which succeeds in leaving the audience bereft of meaning.
What really happened in this play? Who was hero and who the villain? It doesn't seem to matter.
