Betrayal, The Hub, Verwood
I found this play deeply disturbing to watch in several ways, yet deeply satisfying in others, but I am not casting aspersions on the production itself.
The crux of Harold Pinter's play is the betrayal of and by friends and lovers, and that proved to be thought-provoking in the extreme.
I loved the multi-purpose set that served the different scenes so well, as well as the 60s and 70s costumes that clearly set the dates.
And the performances from the three main characters - Emma (Sasha Paul), Jerry (Leigh Haywood) and Robert (Mark Freestone) - were nothing short of superb, showing finely judged pauses and powerful emotions made all the stronger by being so beautifully controlled.
A first-class production.
