POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an ambulance lost control and crashed into a traffic island in Bournemouth.
The incident happened shortly after midday on Sunday at Cemetery Junction.
Although the ambulance was on blue lights, there were no patients in the back and no one was hurt in the accident.
PC Kevin Adlem, of Ferndown Road Policing Unit, said: "Initial reports suggest the ambulance may have had a mechanical failure that led to the loss of control.
"Thankfully, no one was next to the barriers at the time and no was hurt."
There were considerable delays for motorists as Wimborne Road had to be blocked off while police dealt with the incident.
A second ambulance was brought to the scene to transfer all the equipment out of the damaged vehicle before it was taken away for a full range of tests.
Dorset Police would like to talk to anyone who saw the accident, and how the ambulance was driving. Anyone with information is asked to contact the road policing unit on 01202 222222.
