A FIRE at a Bournemouth church was tackled by about 60 fire fighters.
The roof of St Mark's Church in Talbot Village caught fire after a car parked near the church was set on fire during the night.
Springbourne Fire Station manager Louis Minchella said that fire fighters from every station in Bournemouth attended the incident.
Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus removed altar cloths and other flammable material from inside the church.
While other fire fighters using long ladders and a hydraulic platform removed tiles from the roof to expose the fire.
Curate Reverend Penny Trimmer said: "It has been very traumatic."
Station manager Minchella said: "There was no cause for the car to be parked near the church and we believe it was set on fire deliberately during the night."
Police believe the car to be stolen and are investigating.
