CAMPAIGNERS attempting to save Boscombe's Community Arts Centre have been out and about gathering support for their cause.

The future of the Boscombe Centre for Community Arts is under threat with the Haviland Road building considered surplus to council requirements.

But community leaders and users of the centre are not letting it go without a fight.

They have already gathered more than 100 signatures in support of the threatened centre.

More are expected to jump on board before the petition is presented to the council at a meeting on Monday.

Cllr Phil Stanley-Watts, ward councillor for Boscombe, said: "There is huge outcry over the proposals to ditch this greatly-used venue.

"There are quite a few people annoyed and fed up that a facility like this is on the cards to close.

"The final decision must be thought about as it affects a lot of people in Boscombe and Bournemouth."

Adult education classes are being moved out of the centre in the summer because it is claimed the building is too expensive to repair.

Representatives for the centre are expected at tonight's cabinet meeting at the Town Hall to once again press the case for its survival.
