Mum's The Word, Lighthouse, Poole
IT was a bit like group therapy only more enlightening! Mum's The Word is the perfect antidote to the current obsession with yummy mummies and their perfect offspring.
The play is a series of witty well-written monologues from a cast of five women sitting on stage in mismatched chairs.
All the stories are drawn from real life experiences and paint a very frank picture of the ups and downs of motherhood Some of the best moments for me were by (Deborah) Rebecca Wheatley - especially her monologue involving a banana and (Alison) Kim Hartman's desperate attempt to rock her baby to sleep.
There were also some cleverly devised scenarios when the actresses worked together - such as the scene where one of the mothers is swept of her feet by a mythical Italian in a children's playground.
It clearly rang true for many people in the audience who were roused to their feet for a standing ovation at the end.
PS: There are some hilarious surprises in store, too, but I don't want to give too much away as there's still time to catch it if you can, so until you see it - Mum's The Word!
