It must be tough being OCS when you know you can write a tune and pull a crowd, but can't buy a decent review from the self-appointed taste-makers. Still, never mind, what do they know anyway?
On the Leyline plants a hefty foot back in the band's career-defining Moseley Shoals past. Sure, the riffs are recycled from The Who, Beatles and Small Faces songbooks, and the harmonies owe handshakes to the likes of XTC, Squeeze, Them and The Jam, but this still sounds like a party worth sticking around for. Old pal Paul Weller has given them a song, For Dancers Only, that sounds like a rewrite of The Jam's I Need You, but Simon Fowler has brought a brace of classy tunes to the table in the shape of album openers I Told You So and On the Leyline, Waiting.
