LIFEBOAT crews were called to search for 'a person in the water' off Anvil Point on Sunday afternoon.
A call for assistance came through to Swanage Lifeboat Station at 12.34pm from the Solent Coastguard, leading to both lifeboats being launched.
On arrival in the area, the member of the public who called the emergency services was able to identify, with the help of volunteers from Swanage Coastguard, that what they had seen was a lobster pot buoy.
A search was carried out to ensure there was nobody in the water before lifeboat crews were stood down and returned to the station.
