TRAFFIC has been brought to a standstill on a busy road in the New Forest after a car being towed fell from its trailer.
Hampshire Police were called to Stoney Cross this morning after reports emerged that a vehicle – believed to be a black Mercedes – had fallen from the back of the truck towing it and into the central barrier on the eastbound carriageway.
It is not yet known if any persons were injured or if any other vehicles were involved.
One lane has been closed for barrier repairs and there are reports of six-mile queues.
A police spokesman said: “It appears to be a truck that was towing a car and the car fell off the trailer and hit the central reservation and that’s what’s blocked the A31. One lane is blocked but traffic is passing is.”
