More than 30,000 people are expected to flock to the P1 powerboat racing championships this weekend. A fleet of eleven powerboats and more than 30 jet ski riders will compete for top honours over the two day event. The action, set to be featured on Sky Sports and Motors TV, will take place close to Bournemouth Pier. It will also be screened on sports channels in more than 100 countries. This will be P1's third visit to Bournemouth and is free to watch. 

Bournemouth Film and Comic Con takes place at the BIC on Saturday and Sunday. A host of TV, film, comic and wrestling stars willl be there including Ray Park from Star Wars and G.I Joe, Tom Hopper from Merlin, Donald Sumpter from Game of Thrones, Peter Purves and Deborah Watling from Doctor Who and Dave Prowse from Star Wars. It takes place from 9am until 6pm on both days and entry is £15 from 9am or £8 from 11am. 

The 175th Dorset County Show takes place at Dorchester Showground on Saturday and Sunday. Attractions include the Red Devils Free Fall Parachute Display, Heavy Horse Musical Drive, Showjumping, Scurry Driving, Vintage Tractors, Ferret Racing, Gun Dog Display and live cookery demonstrations. Entry is £16 for adults with children under 16 free. 

A free exhibition showcasing drawings by Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Rembrandt and Picasso comes to Poole Museum this weekend. The  ‘Lines of thought: Drawing from Michelangelo to now’ showcase runs from September 3 until November 6. Poole Museum opens Monday to Saturday, 10am - 5pm, and Sunday, 12-5pm.

The RSPCA Dog Show and Craft Fair is taking place on Sunday from 11am to 4pm. The event takes place at the charity's animal centre in Ashley Heath and it will feature craft stalls, refreshments and the chance to see some rescue dogs who are looking for new homes. Admission is £3 per car. The Round Island Swim will take place on Sunday, around Brownsea Island. Organised by the Royal Life Saving Society Poole Lifeguard, the swim will take place between 10am and 2pm. The event is full but people are invited to cheer on the contestants.

A fun dog show and family day will take place at Deans Grove Farm off Long Lane on Sunday from 1.30pm. Admission to the event, which is organised by Wimborne Rotary, is free. All proceeds will go to the Dorset Cancer Care Foundation.

Poole's popular Thai festival will make its return to Baiter Park this weekend. The two-day event will feature a host of cultural events.
Visitors can challenge their tastebuds, unwind with a traditional Thai massage and watch Muay Thai and blindfold boxing. There will also be an eating competition, traditional music, a ‘ladyboy’ show and a children’s play area.
The festival will begin with a traditional food offering to Buddhist monks at 10am on the Saturday. Admission to the festival is £3 for adults, £1 for children and free for those under the age of five.

There's free music at the Bandstand in the Lower Gardens this weekend. Grimsdyke Brass will be performing at 3pm on Saturday, then again at 12pm on Sunday.
