MOTORISTS are being warned of delays on roads around Dorset due to roadworks starting this week.

  • Traffic will face delays on Parley Lane from today until Friday September 16, due to construction work.

Wessex Water is constructing a new site access off Parley Lane, near Bournemouth Airport.

Temporary traffic lights will be in use outside of peak times on Monday.

For the first week, they will be manually controlled and between September 12 and 16, 24-hour lights will be in operation, with disruption possible at peak times.

  • The A35 Upton Bypass is also closed overnight in both directions until Thursday, September 8.

The closure is due to investigation works for bridge protection due to start next year.

The road will shut at 8pm each night, reopening at 6am.

A diversion will be up and over the interchange with the A350.

  • Temporary traffic lights will be in place on Wimborne Road East and Ameysford Road in Ferndown as work to refurbish the traffic lights gets underway.

Work will start on Tuesday for up to 10 weeks.

Temporary traffic lights and restrictions will be in place whilst the permanent traffic lights are switched off.

The lights will be manually controlled at peak times to minimise disruption however some delays are still likely.

A spokesperson for Dorset County Council said: "The traffic lights were first installed back in 1974 and are now in need of replacement.

"Footways around the junction will also be upgraded and in some cases widened to improve pedestrian facilities."

  • Gas works are also taking place on the A350 Bournemouth Road in Blandford.

Temporary traffic lights are in place as a result of the emergency gas main leak and repairs and are in operation 24 hours a day.

They will be manually controlled between 7am and 7pm daily until the work is complete.

  • Don't forget about work continuing on the A349 Gravel Hill both ways between A341 Queen Anne Drive and Arrowsmith Road.
  • And cable laying and temporary traffic lights are in place on the A338 Salisbury Road around North Charford Drove at Downtown until September 30. This is causing long delays at peak times.
