POLICE partially closed the A35 at Upton after a crash involving a motorcycle.

The collision, reported by a member of the public at 7pm on Wednesday, involved a grey Triumph motorcycle. No other vehicles were involved.

Police and ambulance service vehicles attended the scene, just before the turn off to Upton Country House in the westbound lane.

An eyewitness reported a person lying apparently unconscious in the grass with paramedics at work. The motorcycle was seen by a passerby across the road in the eastbound carriageway, where a brief cordon was put in place by police.

The Air Ambulance was not called, and the patient, a Wareham man in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said: "The patient appeared to have come off a motorbike.

"A male in his 20s, he was taken to Poole Hospital."

Neither police nor the ambulance service could provide further information about his injuries, but they are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

The scene has since been cleared and the lanes reopened.
