A LARGE set is being constructed in Purbeck ahead of filming for a new sci-fi series.
Julie Hatcher, of Dorset Wildlife Trust, tweeted a picture of the film set at Kimmeridge Bay, which is due to be closed for filming on Wednesday, April 26, and Thursday 27.
Channel 4 and Sony Pictures Television have teamed up for the 10-part series, Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams, based on the short stories by the sci-fi novelist.
Oscar-nominated Bryan Cranston, of Breaking Bad fame, will be both executive producing and appearing in the series.
“There’s been a lot of construction work going on over the last week-and-a-half to build the set. It’s a big set they’re building,” Julie said.
“Kimmeridge Bay is often chosen by film companies for its stunning scenery,” she added.
Film crews were also spotted in Swanage this week.
The pair were filming scenes for the BBC’s new production of the E.M. Forster novel Howards End.
Cherry Brooks, portfolio holder for economy and infrastructure at Purbeck District Council, said she was pleased production companies were choosing Purbeck as a location for filming.
“I think it’s a good thing. If you look at the area where Broadchurch was filmed, you don’t seem to be able to park for the amount of people who visit the area.
“Filming in the Purbeck is on the increase, and I like the fact these production companies are recognising the beauty of the place and that they want to show it off.”
She added: “I would say there is a general trend of an increase in tourism in the area. We are seeing more people coming into Purbeck for day trips and to stay overnight, which is good.”
