NOW in its third year Common People has settled into a rhythm that provides an excellent early offering at the start of festival season.

Delivered by the team behind the ever wonderful Camp Bestival and Bestival it utilises many of the same site decorations and promotes the same ethos of fun and entertainment as its sister festivals.

Many of the acts were from the dance side of the musical spectrum, none more so than the Saturday night headliner Pete Tong who brought his (wait for it) Pete Tong Presents IBIZA Classics with The Heritage Orchestra Conducted By Jules Buckley show outdoors for the first time and provided a spectacular end to the first day.

Other highlights of the Saturday included what was without a doubt one of the most leftfield acts of the weekend the magnificent Elvana who were also hands down the most entertaining set of the festival.

How can you possibly go wrong with an Elvis fronted Nirvana tribute band. Whoever booked these guys please make sure they are at Bestival and Camp Bestival! Kassassin Street, Beans on Toast and Becky Hill were also great additions to the line-up.

Wandering away from the main stage the Uncontained Stage was packed all weekend with Joy Orbison, Midland and My Nu Leng among those providing the tunes over the two days.

The People’s Front Room is always worth a visit as is the World’s Biggest Bouncy Castle although avoid large meals and too much drink before the latter.

Day two provided another great days entertainment with the rain staying away for the afternoon and evenings sets. The Novatones were an early highlight with British Sea Power and Wild Beast also delivering great sets.

My highlight of the day was the late afternoon show from Amy MacDonald who never fails to deliver a brilliant set of songs. Headliner Sean Paul had the crowd bouncing along to his delivery of Jamaican Dance Hall inspired Rap and Reggae songs that went down a storm and attracted the biggest crowd of the weekend.

Putting on a festival in a city centre location with no camping or car parking was always going to be a gamble but it has certainly paid off with somewhere in the region of twenty thousand people attending each day and enjoying a weekends entertainment.

A great start to festival season and an excellent lead in to Camp Bestival and Bestival, See you all there.
