WORK to revamp a former shoe store on Christchurch High Street has been proposed.
An application detailing the work to windows and doors of the former Shoe Zone store opposite the library has been lodged with Christchurch Borough Council.
The applicant, Christchurch Partnership Ltd, is asking for permission to refurbish and replace a number of windows and doors at the property.
It will remain as a ground floor retail unit with an upstairs flat. A new retail operator is not detailed in the plans.
A heritage statement from the applicant said: "The property has had extensive works undertaken over the years, which has predominately stripped the building of its historic importance.
"A modern shop front has been installed, which fronts the High Street with side-glazing to Milham Street.
"The windows to the property would have originally been timber single glazed units consisting of sash windows and side hung casements."
It adds: "It is proposed to overhaul and undertake refurbishment of the window units where possible.
"Where beyond repair or badly replaced, new units to be installed. It is considered that the proposed works would be re-instating some historic detailing back to the property."
