This week we invited Daily Echo readers to tell us their favourite place to get Sunday lunch and all the trimmings in Dorset and the New Forest.

We compiled the responses to come up with a list of the top restaurants, cafes and pubs in the area and here’s what our readers said.

The Thomas Tripp, Christchurch

Scores of readers heaped praise on this traditional pub in Wick Lane which came out on top in the nomination stakes.

Jon Hunter said: "Great food, Sunday roasts that are amazing. Menus so good all week, and real size portions". While Amy Louise Collins said: “I'd go there purely for the gravy!”

The Nelson Tavern, Mudeford

This family and dog friendly gastropub prides itself on delivering “traditional home cooked fayre” and proved something of a hit amongst our readers and came in second place.

William Evans said: “The roast at the Nelson Tavern in Mudeford is probably the best I've had in a long time. Large choice of meats, great portion size and great tasting. And if you're not content then whatever is left over, if any, gets put on the bar for people to help themselves to.”

The Botany Bay Inne, Winterborne Zelston

“Excellent” and “best carvery ever” is how our readers described The Botany Bay Inne on the A31.

Reader Hannah Mills said: “Fantastic carvery, never disappoints! Very good value, lovely family atmosphere and friendly welcoming staff. Highly recommend it.” Emma Proudley lauded their “amazing food and service.”

The Horns Inn, Colehill

“Best Sunday lunch ever” was just one of the ways used to describe this country pub at Burt’s Hill. The Horns Inn prides itself on its “good pub food” and serves roasts only on Sundays between 12pm and 3pm.

This dog-friendly 17th century pub which uses seasonal ingredients and works with local suppliers came highly recommended.

Rachel Emily Evans said: "The Woolpack is AMAZING, especially the nut roast."

The Larderhouse, Southbourne

This popular venue in Southbourne Grove offers something for meat lovers, vegetarians and fish fans on its Sunday menu.

Gordon Fong said: "Indoors or outside in the courtyard make great settings. Great drinks and cocktails. There’s even a speakeasy cocktail bar for afterwards if you are having a late one."

Cameron's Bar, Christchurch

Receiving several nominations, Cameron's at Bargates serves Sunday roasts between 12pm and 6pm.

Caroline Grimes said: "I personally think Cameron’s in Christchurch is the best place to go for your Sunday roast. The food is freshly cooked amazing taste good size portions and are guaranteed to be filled up. You're never let down by their amazing roasts."

The Rope and Anchor, Poole

Dubbed "the home of good food and great ale", this pub on Sarum Street was described as serving the "best Sunday roast ever."

Nicole Emerson said: "Amazing roasts, just like it was cooked at home... Great service too. Trust me you won't go home hungry."
