A DRIVER told police he couldn’t have been caught speeding because his car wasn’t that fast.

Officers from the Dorset Police’s No Excuse team stopped the Audi RS4 while in Alder Road after it was spotted doing 44mph.

The driver was issued with a fixed penalty ticket.

Police were carrying out an operation in Poole following complaints from residents about speeding.

A motorcyclist did a wheelie past officers just as they were leaving their location in Links Road. The rider was issued with a driver awareness course and a section 59.

Then in Ringwood Road, a man who was using his phone at the wheel while not wearing a seatbelt as he made his way to a wedding.

He was reported for both offences and faces fines totalling £300 and six points.

A woman who was also seen using her phone while driving was given six points and a £200 fine and a recovery truck driver seen using his phone on the Dorset Way was given a ticket for six points and a £200 fine.

Finally, two motorcycles were stopped in Sandbanks.

A spokesperson said: “One was offered a driver awareness course for excess speed. The other was given a fixed penalty for the size of their number plate. Roughly the size of a credit card in height. He was stopped in November by the same officer for the same offence and gave the same excuse of he puts it on for bike night and forgot to take it off.”
