A PRISONER who told a guard he’d infect him with HIV and spat blood has been jailed once again.
Simeon Francis was incarcerated in the Mercia wing of HMP Guys Marsh when he became violent, smashed up his cell and threw a razor blade embedded in a potato down a flight of stairs.
The 34-year-old, who was serving a sentence for burglary, has been addicted to class As since his mother gave him drugs during a “nightmare” childhood, it was heard.
He was sentenced to 15 months in prison for two counts of possessing an offensive weapon in a prison and one of criminal damage following a sentencing hearing at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday.
Mark Ashley. prosecuting, said Francis became riled up when another prisoner, who was due to be released, said the defendant could have his possessions, including a TV and a vape. When a prison officer said the items would need to be checked first, Francis began shouting and swearing.
He smashed up his cell, including the glass pane set into the door for observation, and began building a barricade to keep officers out.
He also spat blood through the shattered pane and told the officer at the focus of his aggression he would return to Guys Marsh following his release and shoot him through the window of his car.
He later told the same officer he had a syringe which contained HIV, and said he would use it to infect him. A capped hypodermic needle was found in his cell.
Francis, now of HMP Winchester, has been ordered to comply with a restraining order protecting the officer and his family in case he “tries to take any revenge.”
Tom Evans, mitigating, said the defendant has faced “clear difficulties”.
Judge Stephen Climie said: “If any one of the people sitting here in court had been through that childhood, we would probably be in the same position as he is now.”
