A MUM from East Dorset has written a series of books for young children to help them overcome negative feelings.
Lisa Everett, from Holt, who has three children and ran her own day nursery for 18 years, first started writing The Repairables four years ago.
Lisa, who works as a counsellor, said she was inspired to create the characters through her work at Hope Housing in Bournemouth, which helps those with drink and alcohol addiction as well as homelessness.
She said: “At this time I was also working as a school counsellor at The Phillip Green Memorial School, Boveridge House, counselling children with behaviour problems and learning difficulties.
“I would take the characters and the stories I created into the counselling room as they proved a valuable resource which enabled the children to open up and express their feelings. The children related to the characters and how they felt, and they loved the stories.”
The Repairables is a collection of seven books including Naughty Nick and Jess and Gerald the Green Eyed Monster.
The third book in the collection, Adam and the Bear with the Sore Head, is about to be published and has been partly funded by Wimborne Skip Hire and Furzehill Village Stores in Wimborne.
Lisa said the books make children aware of negative feelings and show them with the right approach and support, they can be overcome.
She added: “I think there is a real need in today's world to educate the young child on feelings and emotions, enabling them to manage them in a positive way.”
