AROUND 50 dancers came together to remember a popular square dance caller and help raise money for charity.

The commemorative square dance, which was held in Stapehill in memory of Keith Parfoot and organised by Keith’s wife, Brenda, was held on what would have been Keith’s 81st birthday.

The event raised £350 for the Alzheimer’s Society who have been giving ongoing support to Brenda’s family following her diagnosis with Alzheimer’s.

Brenda’s family said: “We were touched by the generosity of the dancers who are always delighted to see Brenda at their local square dance events. What never fails to amaze us is that despite Brenda struggling to remember day to day occurrences, she can recall even most the complicated of square dance moves and participates with great enthusiasm!

“Alzheimer's Society champions the rights of people living with dementia and the millions of people who care for them. We are very proud that all our fundraising efforts for the charity will help make a real difference.”

Lucie Fowler, community fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society said: “We are extremely grateful to Brenda and her family for all of the time and energy they put into this event for Alzheimer's Society.

“We’re facing an incredible challenge: dementia is now the UK’s biggest killer, with someone developing it every three minutes and there is currently no cure. We’re here to change that but we need more people like Brenda, and her family, to join us as we take on dementia together.”
