THERE’S no doubt Bournemouth town centre is full of beautiful Victorian architecture, if only you look up.
But if you look even higher than that you might see a rather unusual addition at the top of Debenhams in the Square.
Fairly unexpectedly, a bike has been attached to a pole on the roof of the building.
Even more strangely, the bicycle’s owner has seen fit to chain it firmly to the pole, perhaps in case a thief attempts to climb the five-storey building and take it for themselves.
Although we can’t say for sure when the bike first appeared on the roof, we’ve gone back through our previous pictures and it wasn’t there in September 2018.
Debenhams itself first opened in Bournemouth in 1972.
The building had previously housed Bobby’s department store, which opened its doors to the public in 1915 and incorporated the former Lawrence the Chemist building. Shops and other commercial premises were first built in the Square in the 1800s.
