BBC Young Musician of the Year finalist, Polly Bartlett, is no stranger to Dorset’s music scene.

The former Talbot Heath and Bournemouth School pupil was principal oboe of the Wessex Youth Orchestra.

She also gives regular recitals in the area as part of the Broadstone Music Series, and has been a regular guest on BBC Radio Solent.

Now a third year undergraduate scholar at the Royal College of Music in London, Polly’s music career has since seen her perform at the Cadagon Hall and the Boconnoc Music Festival with the award-winning RCM wind quintet Ensemble Solaire.

She has also given solo performances of the Bach Oboe and Violin Concerto at the 2018 St Endellion Easter Music Festival, the Strauss Oboe Concerto with the Kew Sinfonia, and the Mozart Concerto as part of the Two Moors Festival 2018.

This month Polly returns to Dorset on Sunday, February 10 to perform Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Oboe Concerto in Best of British with Magna Sinfonia in Poole (see details below).

Polly said: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be playing the Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto with Magna Sinfonia.

“The opportunity to play a full concerto with orchestra is one that doesn’t come up very often and to perform with an orchestra where I’m lucky to know many of the musicians in it; I just can’t wait to get started.”

Now into its third season, Magna Sinfonia has gained a reputation as Dorset’s finest amateur orchestra.

For this month’s performance which is their winter concert, they are performing music by some of Britain’s best loved composers.

The concert will be led by the renowned conductor Kevin Field in a programme that also includes works by British composers William Walton, Gustav Holst and Edward Elgar.

* The Magna Sinfonia Best of British concert will be held at Parkstone Grammar School in Sopers Lane on Sunday, February 10 at 5pm.

Allocated seating tickets are now available in advance priced £13 and £10. Under-18s free.
