A SCHOOL has launched a brick in the wall fundraising initiative to raise money and offer people the chance to become part of history.

Durweston Primary School's Parent Teacher Association is offering the community the chance to have an etched brick put into the new school.

For £20 an individual or family can choose a message for a brick being placed in one of the external walls.

All funds raised will go towards the PTA's current project to re-design the exterior of the school once their new building is completed.

The committee has already raised £8,000 towards the project, which will provide new playground equipment, markings and environmental areas.

Neil Tarchetti, head teacher said: "Parent Jane Youngson, who has two children at the school, came up with the idea.

"We are looking to raise £20,000 over the year.

"The PTA has already raised £8,000 over the last three years. We need another £12,000."

Mr Tarchetti said his brick would give his name, job title and the year.

Work on the new £1.1 million extension at the school is moving quickly and is scheduled for completion by July 2008.

The new building will provide new classrooms, a hall and space for IT facilities, a new kitchen, library and administration rooms and create a school fit for the 21st century.

To get involved in the fundraiser contact 01258 452277 or email office@durwest.dorset.sch.uk before the end of October.

Discounts are available for families or individuals that would like more than one brick.
