HE was the first voice on Radio 1 and in more recent times won I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Legendary DJ Tony Blackburn dropped by Borders bookstore in Bournemouth centre on Thursday to sign copies of his autobiography, Poptastic - My Life in Radio.
Tony who coined the phrase "Poptastic", was met by an enthusiastic queue including young Bournemouth University radio production student, Kate Winship.
He told the Echo he decided to bring out the book to coincide with the 40th anniversary of Radio 1 and joked: "...and because I didn't think I'd live this long!".
He says: "It talks about my life. There isn't a dull bit. It talks a lot about Bournemouth and it talks about Radio Caroline, right from the time I lived in Poole."
Bournemouth has fond memories for him. He used to be a singer at the Pavilion and remembers watching well-known bands of the day in the town. He also completed a diploma in business studies at Bournemouth College.
"To be honest I lived in Sandbanks but was born in Guildford. I love Bournemouth and my sister still lives in Poole. It's a lovely resort."
