GENERALLY speaking, Robert Wyatt is not for the faint of heart. Jazz-based, frequently unsettling and yet routinely rewarding, you won't find his records in the top 10 - although it would be a more interesting world if you did.
Comicopera unfolds in three acts and confounds at every turn. Be Serious takes a fullsome jazz setting over which Wyatt intones his prophecies, Cancion de Julieta finds him putting music to Lorca's poem, while Out of the Blue revels in discordant psychedelia its wonders to perform.
The supporting cast includes Paul Weller, Phil Manzanera, Brian Eno, Yaron Stavi and Annie Whitehead - but it's Robert Wyatt's personality stamped all over the record that makes Comicopera compelling company for an hour or so.
