POOLE powerboat racer Richard Carr returned to offshore racing in style when he and co-driver Paul Sinclair won the American Offshore Super Series (OSS) Vee Extreme class National Championship.
Carr's newly-formed Honeyparty.com team was giving its new, specially designed 39ft long Skater monohull its inaugural outing prior to returning to Europe for next season's racing.
Powered by twin 750horsepower Chief supercharged engines and driven by Arneson surface drives, the duo had a difficult debut with technical problems hampering their efforts during last Saturday's race at the Lake of The Ozarks.
But the next day, with the boat back on song and reaching speeds close to 110mph, they immediately took the lead from the start and were never headed in the 12-lap race.
The South Coast took line honours after beating the top USA teams. They completed the 60-mile course in 34 minutes, averaging a speed in excess of 105mph.
The new team has been formed to campaign the 2008 P1 World Offshore Championship and is using the American races as a chance to hone skills and test the new set-up before competing in the UK in early April 2008.
