Donny Osmond, BIC
THEY might have called it Puppy Love back in the 70s but Donny at 50 proved it's a love that's here to stay!
With boundless energy, bundles of charm and chat - and a voice that was an absolute delight, he treated the BIC to two solid hours of nostalgic music and immaculate entertainment.
Accompanied by a red hot band, the show featured tracks from his new (55th) album Love Songs of the 70s with sugary sweet Laughter in the Rain by Neil Sedaka and How deep is Your Love by the Bee Gees, the more passionate heart-felt Sometimes When We Touch by Dan Hill and the uplifting I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash.
It was an evocative mix of smoochy soul and infectious RnB with many of his own hits as a solo artist and with The Osmonds.
Looking youthful and trim, with choreographed moves that used every inch of the stage and beyond, his voice had an effortless clarity, tenderness and power that constantly amazed.
The evening kicked off with a dramatic countdown with enormous screens displaying images and film clips from a long career.
The level of excitement and euphoria gradually escalated with Donny doing a walkabout into the audience, singing to and greeting fans. Full of fun he sang Puppy Love in styles ranging from country to deep and sexy Barry White to "my worst nightmare", the style of a Blackpool club singer!
It all ended with an electrifying Crazy Horses and a broad smile that said he, like all at the BIC, had enjoyed every minute.
