ARMED robbers who attacked a security guard used a disabled woman's car as their getaway vehicle.

Police are still hunting the trio after they attacked a security guard from a cash van calling at Nationwide in Bournemouth.

They parked the stolen white car on the driveway of an innocent householder only a couple of streets away.

"I saw a plain clothes policeman drive past.

"He said Don't touch it, it's been used in a robbery'." said nearby resident Tim Ricketts.

One of two guards escorting the money was struck with an "unknown weapon" and needed treatment in Royal Bournemouth Hospital, though Group4 Securicor said he was not seriously injured.

The raid was at the building society's branch in Christchurch Road, by Holdenhurst Avenue, at 6.22pm on Tuesday and the car was dumped in Swanmore Road.

A neighbour said just after the raid she saw two police cars parked outside Nationwide and the security van parked on the pavement.

Det Sgt Phil Swanton appealed for witnesses to call in confidence, including people who saw or heard suspicious activity before the raid or saw the white car.

The getaway car is understood to belong to a 69-year-old woman and was stolen on October 12 from her home in Boscombe - complete with electric wheelchair.

Cllr Nick King, ward member for the area and Bourne-mouth's police authority member, said the anecdotal evidence was that many robberies in the area were carried out by people from London who made use of the good transport links.

Dorset Police said there was no indication the robbers were travelling criminals.
