EDUCATION bosses at an East Dorset independent school are to reveal their building wish list to the public, before it is officially submitted to district planners.

Castle Court School in Corfe Mullen wants to embark on a building revamp scheme costing some £3m, to replace a number of outdated wooden classrooms with new facilities as well as build a new dining room.

School bosses also hope to reconfigure the car park to improve vehicle circulation, and lower the height of the covered play area.

The proposals will not increase pupil numbers, says the school, but are needed to improve the quality of teaching and learning facilities for the 21st century, as well as extra-curricular activities such as music and sports.

The four wooden buildings on-site containing eight temporary classrooms are believed to be at least 20 years old and do not meet the needs of modern education.

Castle Court's headmaster Richard Nicholl said: "We are keen to show the residents of Corfe Mullen our proposals and give them the opportunity to comment and ask questions before the plans are finalised and the planning application is submitted."

Public exhibitions are being held at the village hall on October 31 between 3pm and 9pm, and then the following day at the school's Knoll House, from 10.30am to 1pm.

At the exhibitions members of the public will be able to examine the proposals, ask questions of the school and their consultants, and make comments.

Castle Court is a private nursery, pre-prep and prep day school for some 330 children aged between three and 13.
