DORSET Disabled Canoe Unit has been able to purchase two new kayaks thanks to a donation from a local firm.

J.P. Morgan donated a sum of money to the club which has allowed them to purchase two two-seater kayaks to be used by their members.

DDCU has been in operation for over 20 years and is a British Canoeing affiliated club providing kayaking and canoeing from its main club site near Tuckton.

“We run fortnightly paddling sessions on Sundays right through until the 29th September inclusive,” says Mike Holgate, Head Coach.

“These new kayaks are good for pairing up and help those who may just need a little extra confidence to start with to get out onto the water.”

The club adds new members mostly by word of mouth and the web site has all the information you need to get in touch.

Mike added: “We are also very grateful to our willing band of volunteers and we are always very pleased to hear from anyone who thinks they may be able to assist us even if that is on an occasional basis.”

“We were delighted to receive the donation from J.P. Morgan and would like to thank them for their support.”

Sam Cato, a member of the J.P. Morgan Community Relations Committee went along to meet some members of the club.

She said: “It was great to meet such an enthusiastic group of people and I am glad we were able to help in this way.”

J.P. Morgan employs 4,000 people at its technology and operations centre in Bournemouth and has a strong history of community engagement.
