Snow White, Rudolf Nureyev Ballet Academy, Regent Centre, Christchurch
Who's the fairest fairytale maiden of them all? Why, Snow White, of course, a universal perfect choice for these top class Russian ballet students following in the footsteps of one of the most famous Russian dancers of them all, Rudolf Nureyev.
Nureyev would no doubt have been delighted to see his homeland's dedication to ballet is as strong as ever.
There's a superbly featherlight Snow White, and her vain and jealous stepmother The Queen, whose mirror never lies and causes all the trouble. Forced to flee the palace, Snow White is helped first by the forest animals and then by those splendidly whacky Seven Dwarfs who, it turns out, are hilarious dancers too.
When Snow White is poisoned there can only be one result - the just in time Prince leaps to the rescue, and has the audience applauding a magical happy-ever-after ending.
