TRAVELLERS have set up an encampment at Bournemouth's Meyrick Park.
Eight caravans and 12 transit vans are currently at the site. It is claimed a gate had been left open.
Officials from Insight Security have been sent to the park, although it is understood no court order for eviction can be made until the middle of next week.
Witnesses claim pit bikes have been ridden around the land.
A spokesperson from BCP Council said the travellers arrived yesterday, Friday.
"The council and the police are aware of the unauthorised encampment and assessments of the encampment have been carried out," the spokesperson said.
"The unauthorised encampment is being visited and monitored daily by the council."
One witness said the travellers arrived in the middle of football training. It is believed the ground will be closed to sports groups for the duration of the stay.
There are also encampments at the Queen's Road coach park near Westbourne and the Waitrose car park in Christchurch, pictured below.
