It was a case of jet, set, go as a record 36 teams battled it out for charity at the 2019 Dorset Plane Pull.

Groups of 20 volunteers at a time pulled the 737 jet 50 metres across the apron at Bournemouth Airport in a bid to raise as much as £50,000 in total for good causes.

It was the eleventh year of the unique event and two of the 17 charities with supporters raising money were in at the very first pull, the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

The man who co-founded the Plane Pull back in 2009, Richard Griffin said: "It has grown incredibly and really made a name for itself as an absolutely brilliant community fundraiser."

Mr Griffin, now an airline captain himself, added: "It is great to see so many people coming together, having a good time and raising lots of money."

More than £170,000 has been chalked up since 2009.

Other charities with teams this year were the Steve Bernard Foundation, Dorset Mind, Amelia's Rainbow and the Poole Hospital Charity.

The twin-engined aircraft weighed 35,000 kilograms.
