A DRIVER told police he couldn't afford both his car insurance and his holiday – so he picked the holiday.
Officers from Dorset Police's No Excuse team seized a vehicle near Hamworthy this week after spotting that it had no insurance and no tax.
The owner, who lives in Essex, said: "It was either the holiday or the insurance. I couldn't afford both."
Further checks revealed the vehicle's MOT had expired in August last year.
On the same day, the team carried out speeding checks in Poole.
One motorist was caught travelling at 42 miles per hour in Pinecliff Road. The driver told police he's not local and didn't realise the stretch was subject to a 30mph restriction.
Officers then went to the Dorset Way, quickly stopping a driver speeding at 84mph in the 50mph zone.
Another motorist was stopped in Poole Road for using a mobile phone while driving, while another was pulled over for 'not being in proper control' of their vehicle.
