A MAN died after one of the posts propping up a hammock collapsed on him in the garden of his home, an inquest has heard.

Richard Grassby, 58, was at his home in Roman Road, Broadstone when he was hurt on August 26. He was rushed to Poole Hospital, but died later that day.

An inquest into the stonemason's death was opened and adjourned at the coroner's court in Bournemouth on Thursday.

Coroner's officer Nicola Muller told the hearing: "[Mr Grassby] has been lying in a hammock attached to a post. The post collapsed and fell on him.

"He suffered head injuries and went into cardiac arrest. He passed away in hospital on the same day."

A post-mortem has given the cause of death as multiple injuries, it was heard.

A full hearing will take place on March 25 next year.
